Concrete Blocks: A Sustainable Breakthrough:
I’m delighted to share with you our recent achievement – the creation of concrete blocks using a unique blend of 30% Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA) and our R8 Mix. We have also reduced the use of virgin aggregates in the process. This is key because these are, unlike IBAA, finite natural resources that need to be conserved.
As part of our commitment to sustainability we chose to work with a like-minded local concrete manufacturer that also wants to play its part in reducing the immense CO2 emissions of the cement industry. Jason Adie, Managing Director of IPC (Inverurie Precast Ltd), a specialist manufacturer and supplier of precast concrete products, has confirmed the excellent workability of these blocks. He said;
“We had the opportunity to work with Recycl8 and witness first-hand the creation of concrete blocks using their unique patented process. The workability of these was impressive, and they exhibited strength and quality comparable to traditional products. It is exciting to see Recycl8’s commitment to sustainability and their ability to incorporate recycled materials into their innovative processes.”
Proof of Concept and Beyond:
These results serve as proof of concept, confirming the effectiveness of Recycl8’s technology and process. The IBAA used in the blocks was locally sourced in Scotland, reflecting our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and embracing circular economy principles. We are proud to have reached this key milestone, completing our testing and lodging our applications with both the SEPA and the EA for end of waste classification.
It is important to emphasise that this achievement is just the beginning. Recycl8 is actively exploring the construction of blocks tailored specifically for the marine sector, together with reviewing our application in the wider construction industry, we will be sharing more details about this exciting development very soon.
